What an interesting couple of weeks it has been at M. THORNTON ENGINEERING LIMITED, along with getting the usual work done, winning some defence and nuclear contracts, we had the pleasure of Abdelrahman Nassar joining us for a day. Getting some work experience of a workshop in preparation for his final years of an engineering degree at The University of Huddersfield. Watching our operations in the workshop and cad/cam utilised.
We also managed to link him with Ann Watson of Enginuity and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) for a longer placement. I hope we get to see his career in manufacturing unfold.
There was also a day trip to London to meet with various members of the Enginuity team and skills group to talk about government industrial policy, manufacturing policy suggestions and our own experience and suggestions for the future.
Had the pleasure of watching a chinook looking helicopter circle around a few times before heading off down the Thames! Happen to be a favourite of mine!
Also great to be able to promote the fantastic things going on in hashtaghuddesfield and hashtagwestyorkshire with regards to manufacturing and engineering.
Nice to be able to promote the great work of the CKMA, West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services, Kirklees Council and Kirklees Council Employment and Skills. Building awareness and networks is what we all can be doing to highlight the importance of what we do to support the country’s financial foundations.
